A Day in the life of a Digital Business Analyst

Hello, my name is Rachael. I have had the tremendous privilege of working on an exciting - yet rewarding - projectwith the NHS. It is focused on the digitalisation of the Maternal Early Warning Score Tool. Each day is dynamic and involves a mix of meetings, detailed planning, and collaborative sessions, all aimed at ensuring the successful digital transformation of the tool.

📧 8:30 AM Morning Email Marathon

I like to start my day by reviewing emails and catching up on the latest Healthcare IT News to stay informed about trends in the healthcare technology and IT industry. I also review relevant research articles to ensure our digitalisation approach remains cutting-edge. I then check my calendar for the day’s meetings and deadlines.

🏃 8:50 AM - Stand-Up Sprint

I begin preparing for the day’s stand-up meeting, which takes place from Tuesday to Thursday. I review the tasks completed since the last stand-up and compile a list of any new issues or updates to discuss.

🤝 9:00 AM - Team Huddle Time

During the stand-up, I discuss the project’s progress, any blockers, and upcoming milestones with the team. This meeting also provides an opportunity to learn about other projects and tasks, and I listen for positive breakthroughs within the team, as these serve as great motivation for the day.

💡 11:00 AM - Brainstorm Power Hour

After reviewing notes from previous meetings, I have a touchpoint session with my trusted sidekick, who works on a similar tool. Although we are involved in separate projects, we have devised a collaborative approach, especially to help each other with any blind spots. We discuss how to incorporate additional features into the system and refine the wireframes .

🍴📚 12:30 PM - Lunchtime Learning Leap

I take a well-deserved break for lunch and, living near a beach, I use 15 minutes to take a walk for some 'me time,' which helps clear my head and get some steps in for fitness.

📅  1:00 PM -  Stakeholder Sync

I have a requirement gathering session with the key stakeholder to discuss the integration of the digital system with existing electronic health records. We go over specific data fields, integration points, and any customisation needed.

🚶‍♂️2:50 PM - Afternoon Pickup Pause

I take a break for the school run, pick up my lil’ man, and catch up on his day. This is another chance to clear my head and prepare for the late afternoon sessions.

📝 3:30 PM - Document Drafting Dash

Back at work, I follow up on the outcomes of the requirements gathering session. I update the documentation and share the revised artefacts with my sidekick for further review. We also begin planning for upcoming presentations or meetings, ensuring all elements are ready for stakeholder review.

📈 4:30 PM - End of the Day Wrap up

I wrap up the day by finalising any outstanding tasks, responding to emails, and preparing a summary report on today’s progress for retrospective purposes. I review my calendar for the next day and ensure I’m prepared for the upcoming meetings and tasks.

🎉 5:30 PM – Leaving with a Win

With the day’s work complete, I head out, knowing I’ve made significant strides in the digitalisation project and set up a solid foundation for tomorrow’s work.
